Iceni's fresh attempt to concrete over Coombes Farm prompted a great show of familiar faces last night as the "new" plans were displayed at the College in Rocheway.Posters were handed out asking why, if Councillors, Planning Inspectors, and Residents had all said "No" to previous attempts to build, Iceni were trying again.
Cynically presented as a different scheme and even re-named "Land South of Stambridge Road", representatives from Iceni were left with no illusion about the undiminished strength of feeling against any plans to build.
The Council has ruled out any development at Coombes Farm for at least the next 15 years in their local development plan (its "core strategy"). These plans have now been endorsed by a Government Planning Inspector, so Iceni would have to mount a successful Judicial Review to overturn the core strategy to stand any chance of success. I don't however doubt for a moment that they will try, given their past threats of legal action at every stage of the planning process.
This Blog will detail all aspects of the residents campaign to save Coombes Farm.
Once a planning application is submitted it is likely a residents meeting will be arranged to establish a common approach to fighting the proposals. This time, it would be great to get even more people involved including some of our younger residents.
We should probably encourage people to register their opposition here, by 23 November:

I agree. Anything to reinforce that, if anything, we feel even more strongly about any concreting than before.
ReplyDeleteWe need to stop this action.i moved here to live near fields not more and more houses there are places to build and places not too! Coombes is not the correct place
ReplyDeleteWe must stop any building on Greenbelt land to protect and preserve our community from this creeping development disease. We must use our growing voice to show the Council and developers they must be protected, our boundaries must remain clear and stop the urban sprawl connecting towns and villages who will loose their identities.
ReplyDeleteSave this green land from development, keep for present and future generations to enjoy. Please do not take the easy option of building on green land and instead take the hard decision and take time to find an alternative build on brown field sites. Children and future generations will be thankful in years to come…..it just takes a little time, consideration and hard work to do the ‘right thing’. Wildlife and the natural environment should be protected and respected
ReplyDeleteJust money making schemes for the developers. They should concentrate on brownfield sites for regeneration. Leave the original green space there. When it’s gone, you can’t get it back
ReplyDeletePersonally I feel so strongly about over development of the Stambridge Road area I know we can fight this and win !
ReplyDeleteThe mill is a brown field site which is fine why should be have two developments so close to each other and destroy the green belt land ?
Why would you develop this green belt land ? What with the development and growth of southend airport planes will be flying over this land many times a day? Why would you buy a house under a flight path why ?
Where is the infrastructure for this and other proposed developments in rochford ? Trains to London are crowded now. Roads in and out of Rochford town centre are crowded,to say nothing of schools, doctors’ lists etc.
ReplyDeleteTo develop this green belt land would be a disaster for the surrounding infrastructure, which is already struggling to cope with overcrowded roads, inadequate sewage capacity, and insufficient doctors and dentists surgeries. This first phase of 300 dwellings would be 'the straw that breaks the camel's back' and should be resisted at all cost. The building company should not be allowed to speculate and profit to the detriment of the Rochford residents.
ReplyDeleteWhat about all the noise you hear from the industrial area machines and diggers all day you can even hear workmens voices from the industrial area just walk a long the bridal path through Coombes farm ! From 7am each day including Sundays ! Why build houses there ? Don't forget when you build house it's about quality of Life!! Has anybody thought about that part ...,,, then there's the planes over head !!! Please build else where and limit the numbers Please !
